Less politics … more governing
To the editor: There’s a saying that an evil man will burn down his own country in order to rule over the ashes. That unfortunately seems to describe recent actions of Trump and his MAGA enablers.

We the People
To the editor: Webster’s Dictionary defines a patriot as a “person who vigorously supports his/her country and is prepared to defend it against enemies or detractors.” Our country is based on the principle of democracy and the rule of law, both now being threatened by people co-opting the phrase “We the People” while claiming to be patriots. They are entitled to their beliefs.

Time to be practical and realistic
To the editor: In response to the letter about clean energy/property rights, let’s be practical and realistic. In Leelanau County, we have cold winters, so affordable home heating is critical.

How distant is Bergman?
To the editor: On Nov. 19, 2023 US representative Jack Bergman had an article published in the Detroit News.

‘Get out your wallets’
To the editor: The survey of county employees that has received so much media attention is full of opinions that are not backed up by data. Has anyone seen the full survey or are we only getting what the author wants to give us? It’s as though the survey came out with the results wanted by certain members of the Leelanau County Board of Commissioners, which is often the rule of survey at any government level.

Urge Congress to act
To the editor: On January 18, 2024 a bipartisan act was passed by the United States Congress and is awaiting President Biden’s signature. It took less than three months to make it to his desk.

Trail will be an asset
To the editor: I live on Little Traverse Lake adjacent to the Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore. I can’t wait for the completion of the last part of the Sleeping Bear Heritage Trail, Segment 9.

Kudos to housing group
To the editor: Availability of affordable housing in Leelanau County is an ongoing issue. This is true because Leelanau County’s vibrancy requires housing here to be affordable so that folks can live, work and play here.

Listen and learn before voting
To the editor: One man: down with Democracy and the Constitution; Fake News; Witch Hunt; Removal of rights for many. None of these issues were in the forefront until Donald Trump unleashed his vitriol.

Over-reaction
To the editor: Citizens of Leelanau County should feel that their county commissioners truly listen to what they say. That was not so with commissioner Kama Ross at a Leelanau County Board of Commissioners meeting on Dec.

Study ‘amateurish’
To the editor: I read the partial results of the Organizational Cultural Survey. The survey was amateurish and unprofessional.

Disappointed
To the editor: A survey seems to come out as fast as the internet can send them, and they have something in common. They are based on tabulated responses so that the survey taker’s role is mathematical rather than opinionated.
