‘Get out your wallets’

To the editor: The survey of county employees that has received so much media attention is full of opinions that are not backed up by data. Has anyone seen the full survey or are we only getting what the author wants to give us? It’s as though the survey came out with the results wanted by certain members of the Leelanau County Board of Commissioners, which is often the rule of survey at any government level.

The survey of county employees that has received so much media attention is full of opinions that are not backed up by data.

Has anyone seen the full survey or are we only getting what the author wants to give us?

It’s as though the survey came out with the results wanted by certain members of the Leelanau County Board of Commissioners, which is often the rule of survey at any government level.

For instance, the survey spoke negatively about the entire county board, saying that it “lost perspective on their role” and is “not backing current administrator.” But the only two elected officials mentioned by name in the results were clerk Michelle Crocker and commissioner Melinda Lautner, who are concerned about how the county spends on taxpayer money.

Here is what county residents should know about the survey. The top items mentioned were demands for more pay and a need to feel “more respected.” Translated, that means that the richest county government in Michigan wants more money. Get out your wallets.
