To the editor:

2023 was the warmest in the last 150 years.

Climate change now threatens our economy, 1 trillion $/year.

A study from the Pentagon warns that electricity, water, and food systems may collapse by midcentury as a result of climate change. This reality is bringing more conservatives to the table.

On 11/14/23 The Detroit News published an explanation why such an overhaul of the state’s energy laws has now been passed by the senate and signed by Governor Whitmer. This legislation will now provide a path to override local opposition to large-scale wind and solar projects. On an earnings call from 10/26, Consumer’s CEO favorably agreed.

The fossil fuel industry, is a powerful and influential business closely aligned with Russia, Saudi Arabia, Trump, generous lobbyists etc.

Making and transporting electricity is responsible for 80% of our mucked up atmosphere (greenhouse gases, global warming). Fossil fuel interests have a single goal, inaction.

Rural citizens have never had local control, especially when it comes to Big Oil and Gas wanting another well.

Let’s choose renewable energy to protect our future and allow land owners to lease space for wind turbines and solar energy.
