To the editor: I think we can all agree that when employers ensure a positive work culture for their employees, everyone benefits — both employees and those they serve. So, when a number of culture-related complaints from Leelanau County employees surfaced last year, I was glad to see our Board of Commissioners act — convening a three-commissioner personnel committee, chaired by Commissioner Kama Ross, to examine the county’s work environment. 02/07/2024 05:13 PM

To the editor: It has been three years since the January 6, 2021 assault on the Capitol of the United States. As a fiscal conservative Republican, I believe people who planned and participated in this assault should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. 02/07/2024 05:13 PM

To the editor: The headline article “Patriot group gets on agenda” (02/02/24) was misleading and disappointing. In my opinion it was written with a clear bias couched in “argumentum ad hominem.” This term usually is used to refer to a rhetorical strategy in which the writer unfavorably portrays a character, motive, or other attribute of the individual(s) making the argument, rather than addressing the argument itself. 02/07/2024 05:13 PM

To the editor: Letters to the editor attacking personnel committee chair, commissioner Ross are meant to divert attention from the “toxic” label put on commissioner Lautner. The board of commissioners does not need “leadership training.” They desparately need a governing workshop. 02/07/2024 05:13 PM

To the editor: Facebook is always asking... What’s on my mind?...Well the state of our country and my puzzlement at who the GOP wants to be their choice for presidential candidacy... 02/07/2024 05:13 PM
Hardly a landslide
Hardly a landslide
To the editor: The primary season is likely to get busier before it gets better, but I would like to point out that during the Iowa caucus only 15% of the state’s registered Republicans turned out, and of them only 51% caucused for Trump* (CBS, 1/16/24). Hardly a landslide. 02/07/2024 05:13 PM

To the editor: A writer suggests “Biden is a man who wakes up every day trying to do the right thing for the American people.” The only accurate part of this is “wakes up.” Since Biden took office, fuel prices skyrocketed, food costs soared, and American families are struggling to survive. Student debt relief? That consists of hardworking taxpayers financing debt taken on by others. 02/07/2024 05:13 PM
Transparency needed

To the editor: While we were pleased the Enterprise called for releasing the raw data from the recent Cultural Survey, we are disappointed that our paper of record doesn’t seem interested in investigating why commission Kama Ross exchanged 1,250 emails with county employees about the survey. What could such a volume of communication be for? Thank you — Melinda Lautner — for your courage in demanding answers through a Freedom of Information Act request. 02/07/2024 05:13 PM
Invest in ‘affordable’ housing
Invest in ‘affordable’ housing
To the editor: Do we want the most beautiful natural sites and farmland in Leelanau County to be scooped up by international and out-ofstate buyers, who see our natural resources as their cash cow? We want people living here year-round, investing in the county, its residents and businesses. Putting down roots. 02/07/2024 05:13 PM

To the editor: In a letter published in last week’s Enterprise, an author wrote in favor of the current proposed routing of Segment 9 of the SBHT. His arguments are reprehensible, short-sighted, and out-of-date. 02/07/2024 05:13 PM
Age not an impediment
Age not an impediment
To the editor: From where I sit, I see President Joe Biden as a man who wakes up every day trying to do the right thing for the American people, and for the world. Rather than viewing his age as an impediment, I see it as an asset. 01/31/2024 06:09 PM

To the editor: WOW Leelanau County! Great to see a full room to observe the Public Accuracy Test on Monday, January 29th at the Leelanau County Government Center. Michelle Crocker and her election team did a very thorough job of demonstrating how our secure elections work here. 01/31/2024 06:09 PM
