To the editor:
On January 18, 2024 a bipartisan act was passed by the United States Congress and is awaiting President Biden’s signature. It took less than three months to make it to his desk. The fact of this bipartisan effort is newsworthy in these discordant times is significant itself. The content of the Bill makes it important for all Americans.
The Bill (S. 3250) is entitled “An Act to provide remote access to court proceedings for victims of the 1988 Bombing of Pan Am Flight over Lockerbie, Scotland”. It provides remote access to the Court proceedings to the victims families of the 190 Americans who died in this bombing.
As important as this Bill is to these families, it has significance for all Americans.
It provides remote access to criminal proceedings. The same sort of law could be adopted for the upcoming, unprecedented case of United States v. Donald J. Trump for election interference.
Any American who considers themselves a victim of these crime should have access to these proceedings as well as anyone who is concerned about disinformation. We need to know first hand what happens in Court.
Congress can do this for us in less than 90 days if it wishes. Contact your Senators and Representatives about initiating this Bill. Americans have a right to know directly what happens in these proceedings
