Together … a difference
To the editor: At a recent County Commissioner forum, I heard: Lois Bahle who had clearly done her homework, presenting compelling reasons for local government to support childcare and affordable housing, clean water, and sustainable energy use — and practical solutions for doing so. Besides her record of leadership, most impressive is her commitment to working in partnership with others.

Confounds common sense
To the editor: Thank you Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians and Cleveland Township for opposing Segment 9’s environmentally destructive and outrageously expensive trail. It confounds common sense there is plan to fragment a globally rare wetland, remove 7,300 trees and decimate massive glacial dunes.

Support for Bunek
To the editor: I urge district 3 county commission voters to support the common sense candidate Will Bunek. He has roots in Leelanau county and cares deeply about its people and environment.

Support for Wessell
To the editor: I have known Ty Wessell for over a decade. He is civil, bipartisan, thoughtful and compassionate.

Thank you
To the editor: My family and I would like to thank everyone for their outpouring of love and respect for John. And also for the many donations to the John J.

Support Ross
To the editor: I encourage you to vote for Kama Ross for Leelanau County Commissioner. A thing to know about Kama is she is 100% legit.

‘Crocodile tears’
To the editor: Wesleyan University lists over 33,000 denominations of the Christian faith, each with its own interpretation of the Bible and how to use it as a guide to Christian living. Yet a recent letter-writer is so sure that his is the only correct interpretation that he cries crocodile tears for us Christians who believe women should have bodily autonomy, and hopes we enjoy “hot places.” I have but one question: Who died and made HIM God? Matt Roush Dearborn.

Support for Campbell
To the editor: Leelanau County government has lost its priorities. It paid a downstate consultant to conduct a survey of the entire county workforce when the only employee controlled by the board is the administrator.

With thanks
To the editor: I would like to give a big shout-out to Leland Township Trustee Clint Mitchell, who was instrumental in getting a trespassing snow fence moved off of the public beach at Reynolds Street. On September 23, the obstruction, which violates the settlement agreement signed by parties to the Janko lawsuit, was moved to the proper side of the public access pole.

Reelect Wessell
To the editor: I am writing in support of Ty Wessell for District 4 Commissioner. As a resident of Leelanau Township for nine years, I have seen a number of changes in our county government meetings, including more citizen participation, rancor and disagreement than sometimes seems productive.

Wessell … ‘public servant’
To the editor: While political polarization seems to be at an all time high, there are mutually shared concerns and common ground issues that seem to bridge the partisan divide. The vast majority of us support our farmers and local agriculture.

Not so sweet
To the editor: At the Cherry Pie debate, Jim White raised an important point about rising county spending. I didn’t realize our spending has increased by nearly 30% over the past 2-1/2 years, while taxes are up almost 20%.
