Job market strong
To the editor: Here is some vital information for everyone’s consideration as our Presidential Election approaches. The jobs report from Friday 12/8 indicates that 199,000 jobs were created in November; Unemployment fell to 3.7% and wages were up 0.4%.

Wait a while
To the editor: An adage goes, “there is nothing so powerful as an idea whose time has come.” Well, the idea of full green energy has not yet come and won’t for quite a while. But hey, I’m all for it and when you can offer me an affordable non-Chinese-made sedan with a small and SAFE 10-year battery which will go 600 miles at 75 mph and recharges in 30 minutes for $20 I’ll buy one.

Rental issue resolved?
To the editor: As we approach winter in Cherry Home Shores, we reflect on how peaceful the summers have become after the board took action to shut down predatory vacation rentals. We achieved an uneasy peace against commercial interests.

Maureen T. Nelson
NORTHPORT – Maureen Teresa Nelson, 75, of Northport passed away Thursday, December 7, 2023, at home surrounded by her loving family. Maureen was born September 21, 1948, in Traverse City the daughter of John and Helen (Kolbasa) Conroy.

Paul J. Timock
Paul John Timock, of Traverse City, Michigan, passed away on December 10, 2023. Paul was born on October 14, 1948 in Flint, Michigan to Barbara Timock and the late George Timock. He graduated from St. John Vianney high school in Flint (1968) and worked for General Motors until he retired in 1999.

Dr. Trenton A Janda
Traverse City – Trenton Allen Janda, passed away Saturday December 10, 2022 after a long and valiant battle with Gallbladder Cancer. Trent fought with everything he had but the Cancer was relentless. He passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family and closest friends. This was just a month after his Mom Janet Kay Janda (Boone) passed away, and 10 days before Trent’s 54th birthday. He will be greatly missed, but we are comforted by the fact that he has joined Jesus, his mother and other cherished family.

Board acts on consent agenda
The Leelanau County Board of Commissioners held its monthly regular session early on the second Tuesday of the month, and made the following actions under its consent agenda: • Approved a $249,058 contract with the Michigan Municipal Risk Management Authority, renewing their property and casualty insurance with the agency through 2024.

Generous communities make spirits bright
