To the editor: Point Broadband continues working to bring high speed internet to our county. That work is largely funded by the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021. 06/12/2024 05:52 PM
No dock
No dock
To the editor: Leland Township Supervisor Susan Och’s typical lack of urgency and failure to communicate with fellow Board members resulted in DNR’s stunning removal of a dock on the Leland River. Her failure will result in a needless increase in difficulty for those putting in and taking out their boats on River Street, as well as a decrease in vital boat parking in Leland for Leland businesses. 06/12/2024 05:52 PM
Conflict of interest
Conflict of interest
To the editor: Unfortunately, the pertinent wording in the Leelanau County conflict of interest policy was not included in coverage of a citizen’s request to investigate whether the chair of the Energy Futures Task Force had violated that policy. The wording in the first line of the request reads, “A clear example of a conflict of interest occurs when a public servant openly advocates for the approval and funding of a program which would result in a benefit to the public servant.” The chair — Joe DeFors— helped write a grant that would directly pay him and lobbied for its passage. 06/12/2024 05:52 PM

Support for Ross
To the editor: Kama Ross is my BOC commissioner and I am so grateful and honored to have her represent me. Her honesty and dedication is evident at every meeting. 06/12/2024 05:52 PM

To the editor: Area Veterans were recipients of the wonderful generosity of the Leland charter boat fleet this past Wednesday. I was on-board a boat with a very able Captain who worked hard to assure that all of us had a great time on the water. 06/12/2024 05:52 PM
The Hamptons?
The Hamptons?
To the editor: Is Leland Township ready to become the “Hamptons” of the Midwest according to the Delamar Hotel in TC? Are we ready for helicopter tours starting June 15 from the Delamar Hotel, buzzing their wealthy guests around Leland to look over our beautiful serene setting? Never mind the noise of a chopper hovering along the Lake Michigan coastline admiring the Hampton like qualities of the homes there, it’s part of the fun of being the Hamptons!! Ignore the sound and interruption of our peaceful ambiance as a helicopter drops in for a landing at the Dunebird Winery on what was stated to be a private, personal landing strip. Enjoy the sound and vibrations of the helicopter as it roars to full power on takeoff as it journey’s on to show its well heeled patrons how the rest of us live. 06/12/2024 05:52 PM
Flag represents all
Flag represents all
To the editor: Last Thursday, June 6, I watched the ceremonies at the Normandy American Cemetery in France, honoring the events of eighty years ago. Flying above the graves of the 9,388 American soldiers buried there I saw our flag- the proud symbol of our nation. 06/12/2024 05:52 PM
Solar works
Solar works
To the editor: Contrary to the recent forum by John Popa, my wife and I have relied on our solar arrays for several years now with satisfying results. With three separate installations we rarely have net loss in our monthly bills. 06/12/2024 05:52 PM
Free clean energy is good energy
Free clean energy is good energy
To the editor: For the record, Leelanau County actually rates pretty well for solar energy. Germany is further north than we are, and they generate over 10% of their country’s electricity from solar. 06/12/2024 05:52 PM
Newcomers perspective
Newcomers perspective
To the editor: As a newcomer to Leelanau County, I want to highlight the vital role Parenting Communities played in integrating families like mine into the community. Beyond the documented evidence which underlines the program’s efficacy on improving parenting skills and connecting families to resources, they offer a priceless human touch. 06/12/2024 05:52 PM

Patriotic community
To the editor: Why is our VFW Post 7731 Memorial Day program a success? All of our members work hard to host this important event. We have good advanced advertising and we have good newspaper coverage. 05/29/2024 05:59 PM

To the editor: Thank you to all who participated in this year’s Leelanau Reads community reading event! We welcomed approximately 60 readers at library book discussions and 300 audience members at the author talk. Thank you to author William Kent Krueger, interviewer Aaron Stander, Northport Public School and the individuals who provided technical assistance at this venue, bookseller Pamela Grath from Dog Ears Books, each library’s Friends of the Library group and the Mid-Michigan Library League. 05/29/2024 05:59 PM
