Vern L. Schaub, 90, of North Branch, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2024, at his home. Vern was born in Lake Leelanau, MI, on July 26, 1933, to William and Violet Schaub. He worked on the family farm and graduated eighth grade at St. Mary’s Catholic School in Lake Leelanau. He later moved to North Branch and worked at Chaso Royco before taking a job with the State of Michigan at Oakdale Center in Lapeer. After retiring as supervisor from Oakdale Center, he worked at Suncrest in Lapeer, MI. He married Lorraine Lange on May 28, 1960, at SS Peter and Paul in North Branch. He was a long-time member of SS Peter and Paul and volunteered for many years. Vern was a passionate gardener and was known for his beautiful flowers and garden, which he kept with for as long as he was able. He had a strong work ethic and a good sense of humor. He gave generously of his time and work to his family, friends and neighbors. One of his favorite pastimes was visiting with passers-by as he worked in his garden all summer.

Vern was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Lorraine; daughter, Carol Chalk; parents, William and Violet Schaub; brothers, Arthur Schaub, Leonard Schaub and Leo Schaub; and sisters, Johanna Peplinski and Marjorie Forton.

He is survived by his children, Steve Schaub, Jill (Jeff) Laur, Jane (Tom) Jeffrey and Bill (Jessica) Schaub; sonin- law, Steve Chalk; grandchildren, Jason (Katie) and Jered (Amanda) Laur; Lucas, John and Elsa Jeffrey; Iris Chalk; Madeline ( Jerry) Robinson, Emma, Elizabeth and Nathanial Schaub: great-grandchildren, Jake, Kenzie and Jase Laur and Eloise Laur; sisters, Marie Schaub and Josephine Gauthier; many nieces and nephews.

He will be greatly missed by all who loved him dearly.

The family will be present for visitation on Sunday, February 18, 2024, 3:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at Blackburn Chapel-Martin Funeral Home with rosary at 5:00 P.M. On Monday, February 19, 2024, visitation will be at 10:00 A.M to 11:00 A.M. at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church with Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 A.M. Rev. Sama Muma will be officiating. Vern will be laid to rest next to his wife and daughter at SS Peter & Paul Cemetery.
