GLEN LAKE - Joan Glennis Colby, 94, summer resident of Glen Lake, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 22, 2024, in Melbourne, FL.
Joan was born on October 9, 1930, in Saline, MI, the daughter of Karl and Louetta (Schaible) Wurster Sr. She graduated with her bachelor’s degree from Eastern Michigan University , pursuing a passion for teaching that led her to a career as a high school home economics teacher in Ohio, Michigan and Florida. Joan’s warmth and dedication left a lasting impression on her students, shaping countless lives over her career.
On June 30, 1951, Joan married the love of her life, Donald Sidney Colby, in Ann Arbor, MI. Together, they shared 55 wonderful years of marriage, building a life full of love, family, and cherished traditions. In 1963, Joan and Donald relocated to Florida, while continuing to spend their summers in their Glen Lake cottage, a place they both loved deeply.
Joan is survived by her children, Jeffrey L. Colby and Cynthia (Brian) Hosken; and her three grandchildren, Jacquelyn Colby, Patrick Hosken and Matthew Hosken.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald, and one granddaughter, Nikki Hosken.
A graveside service will take place in the spring at Maple Grove Cemetery in Empire, where Joan will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband.
