Donald was born August 23, 1949 in Owosso, MI, the son of Edward and Rose (Martin) Szilagyi.

On September 12, 1981 at All Faith’s Chapel in Traverse City he married Beth A. (Whitefield) Szilagyi who survives.

Don graduated from Owosso High School and attended Baker and Hope Colleges. Shortly after college he moved to Northern Michigan and was employed by Country Golf for nearly 20 years. His desire to stay home, combined with his entrepreneurial spirit and love for animals inspired Don and Beth to start Noah’s Ark Pet Care. Don had an eye for detail and opened his second business which was See For Miles Window Cleaning. Through that company he employed several people in his community throughout the past 25 years.

He was known for his contagious laugh and bright smile. Don was very social and had a love of Christian music. He was a strong supporter of missionaries, police, fire and rescue and members of the armed forces. He loved his Harley Davidson motorcycle and riding on Two Wheel Tuesdays with his friends. He also participated in the annual Blessing of the Bikes. In his downtime he also enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching old westerns.

Don was a man of faith and was unashamed to share it. He was a member of the Leelanau Community Church and served as an Executive Deacon. Don brought joy to the church and quickly earned the title of “Shoutin’ Don”! His mission in life was to share the love of Jesus Christ our Savior with as many people as possible, which he did.

Don was preceded in death by his father, Edward Szilagyi, mother Rose Szilagyi and brother Robert Szilagyi.

Don is survived by his loving wife of fortytwo years, Beth; his children, Christina (Brent) Roland, and Donald (Anita) Szilagyi; his siblings, Gerald (Linda) Szilagyi, Janet (Robert) Griffin, a sisterin- law, Jayne Szilagyi; his grandchildren, Bailey (Justin) Wenzel, Cade Roland, Channing (Candace) Tardiff, Paige Tardiff and his former spouse Lorraine (Dobos) Harrison, (the mother of his children). Along with many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Don’s life will be held at Martinson Funeral Home, on Saturday, January 6th at 11:00 a.m. A luncheon will follow at Leelanau Community Church, 245 S. Lake Leelanau Drive, Lake Leelanau, MI 49653.
