Support children
To the editor: VOTE YES on the Early Childhood Millage on the August ballot. This groundbreaking initiative is parent-led and informed by the science of learning.

Support for Ugalde
To the editor: Dear Leelanau Township voters: The position of Leelanau Township Treasurer is a position that requires competence. Jolisa Ugalde has been in the position of Deputy Treasurer and has been trained to do the job that she will assume as Treasurer.

Dirty v. clean
To the editor: Some of our county commissioners are enamored with green energy projects, but are apparently unaware of the costs, environmental impacts, and reliability issues. Mother Earth News reports in their article “Dirty Drawbacks of Clean Energy” from June/July 2024, lithium mining is intensely damaging to the environment.

Disappointing
To the editor: What I witnessed at the Senior Expo was disappointing. Last week, our Seniors gathered at Suttons Bay High School, to get help with just about any issue that accompanies aging.

Unsound
To the editor: Our country’s well-being be damned, Democrats and a complicit mainstream media were completely comfortable reelecting a cognitively impaired President Biden when they thought he could win. Their claims that his sad debate performance was “a breakthrough moment” in their understanding of his condition, which “aides have shielded,” or that “preparation overload” or “a cold” were to blame, are selfevident nonsense.

Leland Twp. issues
To the editor: I’m often asked what I see as the top issues facing Leland Township over the next four years. While there are many — park improvements (including the DNR launch), rebuilding the library seawall, prioritizing road repairs — the list starts with mending the divisions that have widened the last several years, and earning back the community’s confidence in our local government.

Gala kudos
To the editor: On behalf of the board of directors for the Leelanau County Cancer Foundation, I would like to thank everyone who made our Gala of Grace fundraiser successful. To French Valley Vineyards for providing the venue, North Coast Trio and Sara Hartley for providing entertainment, to all those who donated auction items or food for our buffet, and to all those who attended and so generously bid on items, too numerous to name, we sincerely appreciate you.

Reelect Ross
To the editor: I am thrilled that Kama Ross is running to continue her service as a Leelanau County Commissioner for District 5. Considering all the volunteer activities she has done and continues to do for our community, she is clearly a human dynamo! I do not know how she finds time for it all.

Kudos to Mawby
To the editor: I read with great interest Larry Mawby’s efforts to establish affordable housing in Suttons Bay. Housing young people can afford is one of the greatest priorities I can name regarding the future of our community.

Giver… not a taker
To the editor: I’d like to comment on last week’s letter to the editor titled “Walks the Walk” written by Steve Gilbreath about the community involvement activities of Kama Ross. Not only is Kama currently involved in the Northport music scene and on the county commissioners board, she also has served in the Peace Corps and a host of other activities too long to mention in her earlier years.

Support Grant
To the editor: Jennifer Grant has my support for Leelanau County Register of Deeds in the August Primary Election. Experience counts! Integrity and accuracy are valuable traits she continually demonstrates, which are so necessary in land records management.
