To the editor:
Congressman Bergman takes pride in 40 years of military service and having retired from the Marine Corp as a lieutenant general. Congressman Bergman is a member of the House Armed Services Committee.
It is unfathomable that a military man with his experience and committee assignments should remain quiet and inconspicuous where U. S. support of the Ukrainian war is concerned.
Bergman has supported previous Ukrainian appropriations, but now seems to be cowing among the GOP obstructionists who can not recall any lessons from twentieth century wars, or the stability and prosperity Pax Americana geopolitics brought thereafter.
Contemporary global threats are not unlike the invasions unleashed by Germany, Italy, and Japan in 1939. Except today’s aggressors are Russia, Iran, and China. American isolationism didn’t work then and is even more short sighted today.
Assuming Congressman Bergman didn’t skip twentieth century history classes at War College he knows.
Ukrainians are fighting and dying in a war for America’s long term national security and to defend democracy for emerging nations.
My plea is for all like minded constituents to call 202-225-4735 and/or 231-944-7633 and assure Congressman Bergman his constituents want him championing critical Ukraine aid without further delays.
