Board challenged

To the editor: Good News! For most of 2023, I think that our Board of Commissioners had acted in a bipartisan, pragmatic way. They had put aside politics and worked well together to get their work done under sometimes difficult conditions.

Good News! For most of 2023, I think that our Board of Commissioners had acted in a bipartisan, pragmatic way. They had put aside politics and worked well together to get their work done under sometimes difficult conditions.

The challenge now is to keep this good practical attitude going while trying to also improve the work climate at the government center. They have already taken several steps in the right direction. A recent Committee of the Whole meeting was called to receive a report from John Amrhein from MSU on how various counties similar to Leelanau handle their finance responsibilities. It was an interesting report and engendered some civil discussion and questions from the Board. A pragmatic, practical way forward is now emerging.
