Along with 6,000 schools across the nation, Lake Leelanau St. Mary participated in a celebration of Catholic education Jan. 28 through Feb. 3.

The week’s theme, “United in Faith and Community,” highlighted the schools’ focus on faith development, academic excellence and dedication to community service.

The week was filled with activity and joy as each day had a celebratory theme starting with family, followed by students, community, faculty/staff, vocations and nation. Friday rounded out the week with a basketball game and homecoming, followed by a dance on Saturday.

Students prayed the rosary daily, presented a talent show to the community, students and staff, decorated doors, stairwells and hallways, made spiritual bouquets, participated in Olympic games, a pie eating contest, sing-a-long, PEP assembly as well as decorated placemats for a community spaghetti dinner and open house.

Over $1,000 was raised at the dinner with proceeds going to Leelanau Christian Neighbors. One hundred-seventy meals were served.
