Snowmobile race still on despite warm temps

The northern Michigan weather has not let us down. It is as unpredictable as ever.

The northern Michigan weather has not let us down. It is as unpredictable as ever. I’m not sure if the “whistle pig” saw its shadow or not, so who knows.

Next weekend however still count on the annual Chili Cookoff and Perch Fishing contest on Boonedocks deck Saturday, Feb. 17.

I’m sure most of you have noticed that the welcome sign coming into Glen Arbor on the east side is missing. The sign was broken and I think probably a snow plow was responsible. With the snow that we had and the amount that the plow had to push to the side of the road, the sign couldn’t take it. I hope the sign is replaced as soon as possible. It really is a nice way to welcome visitors and folks into our town.

Congratulations to Jeff Gietzen, new board president of the Glen Arbor Arts Center.

All good wishes to Kay Wilcox, recovering with a new shoulder.

Get your bets for the Super Bowl. It is easy. No local teams.

The National Park has a new Planetarium Dome which is said to be out of this world. Educators located within 50 miles of the National Lakeshore can sign up for a Ranger led visit to their school. The team will bring the Dome as well as a variety of other activity stations for the students. The school must have a large room big enough to fit the Dome as well as the activity stations for students. The Dome is approximately 17 feet wide and 12 feet tall and obviously electrical outlet will also be needed to plug in this electronics. The National Park Foundation is making this possible through the “open mouthed words for kids grant program.”

Happy Birthday wishes to Bill Banish, John Nash, Helen Esch, Gerald Schiffman, Lincoln Wild Kola Grauman, Carlin Niess, Robert Graham, Angie Diotte, William Henry Harrison, and of course Abraham Lincoln.

Another quote from Will Rogers: “I don’t make jokes, I just watch the government and report the facts.”

Have fun out there. I don’t recommend ice fishing, Be happy. Stay safe. Go Patriotism?
