Snowmobile event a go — for now

Seems like the most popular sport around here last week or so is trying to find your sidewalk and/or get to your driveway. Unlike last year at this time when we were worried and concerned about having snow left on the frozen sand at the Dune. What a difference a year makes.

Speaking of the Dune, as of this writing conditions on the trails are pretty good. Heritage Trail great for snowshoeing or classic back country skiing.

Palmer Woods has excellent conditions and the classic tracks are groomed. As far as back country skiing and hiking trails, they are not groomed but plenty of snow everywhere. Enjoy and be careful.

The Glen Arbor Art Center’s Happy reception was postponed due to the snow storm. But they still announced the winners:

• BestofShow–TheTime Out Chair, Kimberly Stoney (Amy L. Clark-Carels Family Fund award)

• MeritAward–FirstDayAt the Beach, Tia Sunshine Dye (Barbara and Victor Klein Art Fund award)

• MeritAward–HappyMeal, Mark Mehaffey (Barbara and Victor Klein Art Fund award).

Because of the snow and weather etc. Happy opening reception has been rescheduled for Friday, Feb. 2 from 5 to 7 p.m.

On Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. there will be a concert, Stories and Songs of the Sleeping Bear, with The Beach Bards held at the Friendly Tavern in Empire.

Should be very entertaining, No charge, you can’t beat the price. This is being presented by the Empire area community center.

More good news, Empire Snowmobile Drag Races will be taking place at the William Bolton International Airport on Feb. 10 beginning at 8 a.m. Dress warm and have fun.

It was a great weekend for Michigan football fans, not so much for the Green Bay fans on that side of Lake. Although there are many Green Bay fans in our area.

Happy Birthday wishes to Criss Thompson, wish he was here so we could celebrate with him.

To all our Chinese friends, Happy New Year and I think Ground Hog Day is coming up when that lousy rodent predicts more winter.

Will Rogers said, “Everything is changing. People are taking their comedians seriously and the politicians as a joke.

Get back to shoveling, be careful, enjoy the North.
