Cherryland Electric

To the editor:

Our newly appointed county administrator is doing a disservice to Leelanau county citizens by running for a Cherryland Electric Board of Director’s seat. James Dyer sought out the full-time position of Leelanau County administrator with a promise to devote his attention to serving the residents of Leelanau. The job of administrator is all encompassing. If his intention is to give complete devotion to the position, he would not be able to carve out time to help set energy policy for a regional utility provider. Cherryland pays Leelanau County to place antennas on county towers. Will Dyer negotiate/ oversee that contract? Will Dyer negotiate future contracts with Cherryland? If elected as a Cherryland Board director Dyer will be paid $1,000 per meeting.

Is this not a conflict of interest?

I am concerned that our new administrator has brought controversy with him as one of his very first decisions.
