Runners compete at states

Glen Lake senior Colebrook Sutherland finished third in the 800-meter run at the MHSAA Division 4 state championship with a time of 1:58, only a half of a second from taking first.

The 4x200-relay team of Noah Scott, Hunter Cox, Liam Palmer and Ben Selby finished 15th with a time of 1:35.

The two-mile relay team of Abraham Feeney, Eli Maule, Sutherland, and Lincoln Bailey finished 15th overall with a time of 8:38.

Glen Lake sophomore Dominic Steing finished 11th in shot put (43’ 10.5”), and 14th in discus (134’ 2”).

Laker junior Jacob Plamondon finished fourth in the high jump competition with a height of 6’2.

In the girls state championship races, Leland senior Ella Knudsen finished 12 with a time of 5:42. Glen Lake freshman Carmella Julian finished 14th overall in the two-mile race (12:25), while Leland sophomore Natalie Burpee finished 21st with a time of 12:43.

The Laker 4x100-relay team finished 20th with a time of 53.80 (Lydia Fosmore, Avery Flores, Emily Alaimo and Lilyan Shimunek).

Fosmore, Alaimo, Flores, and Shimunek also finished 11th in the 4x200-relay (1:52). The mile relay team also finished 11th, 4:21 (Fosmore, Shimunek, Alaimo, Julian).

Leland’s two-mile relay team of Mya Denoyer, Sophia Grinage, Burpee, and Knudsen raced to a 22nd place finishing time of 11:11.

Lake Leelanau St. Mary senior Jessica Grant finished 16th at states with a shot put throw of 94 feet. Her sister, freshman Elizabeth Grant threw for 73 feet five inches.
