Glen Lake track and field preview

Glen Lake track and field athletes are ready to hit the lanes for the spring 2025 season.

The boys have a healthy roster, while the girl’s team has only 13 runners.

Nevertheless, Glen Lake aims to remain atop the Northwest Conference and regionals, with a chance to advance to the states in June.

Glen Lake, Benzie, and Leland started the season yesterday if the weather held out in the first Northwest Conference race of the season, which the Lakers hosted.

For the boys, Glen Lake senior Colebrook Sutherland will be capping off his illustrious high school running career. The midand long-distance specialist will be looking to keep his title of Dream Team MVP, school record, and championships in mind.

“Similar to cross country, it’s just the challenge of it ... if you put in the work towards it, then it’s really easy to get noticed because the times don’t lie, “Sutherland said.

Sutherland broke the mile and two-mile records last season. He finally broke the mile record at the state meet when he finished fourth at 4:25.

The junior is looking toward another record this season, including an 800-meter title.

“I only got one more school record (800-meter), so I already have the mile and two mile ... Definitely get to the podium at states. “ Sutherland said.

Glen Lake sophomore Abraham Feeney will be looking to make his name known as he qualified for states last season in the mile and two-mile.

Laker seniors Boden Fisher and Noah Scott will also lead the Lakers in sprints this season.

“We want to compete as much as possible in the early stage of the season, slowly building yourself up … working as much as possible to prepare for that,” Fisher said and Scott added. “We want to finish out the year strong. Spending a lot of time having fun. Hopefully, we will bring all our friends and guys on the team to states as many people as possible. We want to get medals, podiums, and all the good things about track but getting PRs each week.”

Glen Lake competed at the Buckley relays in a tune-up and fun meet before the fast-andfurious season begins.

For the girls, sophomore Lydia Fosmore and senior Emily Alaimo will lead the charge.

The main goal is to send the 4x8000 relay team to the states and compete for a spot on the podium.

The Lakers will have plenty of young and unapproved athletes that will be exciting to watch throughout the spring season.

“I think we all ran our hardest, and we tried to get a good base for times just to carry us through the season and better ourselves,” Alaimo said. “This is more just warming up. We want all our relays to go to states and place in states this year. We’ve always been on the same relays, and we made it to states, but we want to do more than just make it to states. It’d be cool if we could actually be on the podium.”

Fosmore will be long jumping along with several other sprints and mid-distance events.

“Every day’s a grind; we just want to better ourselves and take the steps to be better as a team,” Fosmore said.

Carmella Julian, a sophomore, will be returning with expectations after an impressive freshman season in longdistance events.
