Norse aims for growth on junior led team

With a young roster, Suttons Bay softball will be heading into another season with hope and optimism.

For the 2025 season, the Norse will field no seniors, three juniors, and the rest sophomores and freshmen. Suttons Bay coach Gary Galla will be at the helm in his second season.

“We just want to get better. A lot of them have one year of experience, and a lot of girls were. We had four girls that had never played before (last year). It was an opportunity for them to learn a little bit,” Galla said. “It’ll be a fun season.”

The Norse are focusing on the fundamentals early in the season.

Suttons Bay will be led by three juniors: Hannah Gordon, Ella Ingwerson, and Eli Marshall.

Ingwerson returns as a shortstop and pitcher after being named to the Dream Team last season.

“My favorite thing about this sport is the people that I’m surrounded by. I feel safe with my team because I’ve known them for practically my whole life,” Ingwerson said. “I play because it makes me happy, and I just like it.”

Ingwerson would like to see the team working together, pulling through the tough times, and enjoying their time together.

For Gordon, she loves being on the team playing one of her favorite sports.

“We want to hustle everywhere and have fun,” Gordon said.

Gordon will be a rock on the mound as a pitcher, playing at shortstop and leading the younger players.

“We have to show that we can help and also be there. We have experienced as softball players,” Gordon said.

Another junior, Eli Marshall, loves hanging out with her teammates and having a supportive group. The team’s catcher wants the Norse to fight all season long.

“We mainly focus on making sure our throws are accurate and getting to where they need to be,” Marshall said. “I think the three of us are good at this sport, and we like to share our knowledge about it and everything.”
