To the editor:
It’s been 11 years since 20 precious elementary students and six adults were murdered at Sandy Hook. I remember the tears running down my face as I watched the national news. I remember thinking, now things will change.
But the NRA and the Republican party have seen to it that very little has changed. Despite the fact that a majority of Americans want stricter gun laws (58%, Pew Research Center, 2023), every few weeks we hear of another gut-wrenching mass shooting.
Easy access to guns makes America an outlier from other nations. Our gun homicide rate is 26 times that of other highincome countries—a stain on our great nation ( Everytownresearch. org.) Democrats are working to stop the madness, passing the first gun safety bill into law in 30 years in 2022. But it wasn’t nearly enough. Vote blue for bigger changes that will save more lives.
