G-A mourns Leonard Thoreson

Happy first day of spring. Although you wouldn’t be able to tell by looking outside. As usual on this day and weekend, we have snow. It seems to snow every year when we get our hopes up and think we have had enough.

At this time of year the plows hurry to get out and plow before — the snow melts.

We have lost a good friend and a good person, Leonard Thoreson. To know Leonard was to like him. Leonard was a fixture at the Township Building for many years and knew everyone and would help with anything, usually before he was asked. Leonard will be missed.

Just a reminder, Fly our flag on 3/29, National Vietnam War Veterans Day.

Looking for something to do? Game night a The Mill on Friday 3/28 from 5 to 8 p.m. Cabin Fever drink specials from 3 to p.m. Get a pizza from Millies and bring it over or go downstairs to eat. Bring a game and join the fun.

Mark your calendar to April 19 at 11 a.m. The community Easter Egg Hunt at the Lion’s Club Park. (Johnson Park). Kids bring a basket for your treasures. The kid ages up to 12 years will be put in age groups to hunt in a specific area of the park. Thanks to the Empire Area Community, the Empire United Methodist Church, the Empire Area Community Center, St. Philip Neri Catholic Church and the Glen Lake Community Reformed Church.

Happy Birthday wishes to Mathew Wieber, Dorne Yeager, Pam DePuy, Wayne (Doc) Jamison, Pat Taghon, Leigh Payment and John Tyler.

I have used a quote that is especially apropos for the up coming Easter, “I was thinking about how people seem to read the Bible a lot more as they get older, and then it dawned on me, they’re cramming for their final exam.” George Carlin.

Be safe. Be careful. It ain’t over yet. Be happy.

Go Patriotism!
