The third annual Maple Sugaring Days happened Saturday at the Dune Climb after a cancellation at the end of February and a cold snap over the past few days resulted in the change of scenery.

Nevertheless, Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore (SBDNL) and Preserve Historic Sleeping Bear put on an informative day of maple syrup activities.

Cold temperatures in the high teens, resulted in the location change from Port Oneida to the Dune Climb.

“The parking areas at the Dechow and Olsen farms are farm fields that thawed very quickly, but are now under a few inches of heavy, wet snow. For the safety of visitors, and their vehicles, the decision has been made to move this event to the base of the Dune Climb,” SBDNL updated on its website.

The magical Dechow and Olsen Farm will have to wait for 2026 for the celebration of maple sap.

There was still plenty of maple syrup fun at the Dune Climb with sap boiling demonstrations, history talks, kid’s activities, finishing the syrup, and making maple sugar and candy.
