As Leelanau receives a proper northern Michigan winter, the Empire Area Community Center (EACC) prepares to revive a favorite winter tradition — the Empire Winterfest. Events will be hosted throughout the Village of Empire on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
All Winterfest activities are free to attend as the Empire Area Community center sponsors the event Events include:
• Yoga at the Township Hall, 9 a.m.
• Saunas at Empire Beach (South Bar Dock), noon to 3 p.m.
• Book sale at library, noon-5 p.m.
• 50/50 raffle, winner announced at 3:30 p.m.
• Polar plunge at Empire Beach 1 p.m.
• Coffee with neighbors at Tiffany’s Cafe, 2 to 4 p.m.
• Winter activities at Joe Friendly’s Tavern and Sleeping Bear Surf, 2 to 5 p.m.
• Broomball competitions, winners announced at 3 p.m.
• Children’s winter story hour at the library; soup potluck at village hall, 5 p.m.-7 p.m.
There will also be an after party and the Village Inn from 7 to 9 p.m.
