Chris Comeaux won his bid for Solon Township supervisor this past election, beating out long-time supervisor, Jim Lautner, who had served for 16 years. Comeaux had previously served as Cedar Area Fire & Rescue Fire chief for just over three years from 2018 to 2021.
Why did he choose to run for supervisor?
“Because I have the knowledge, management experience, education and experience in government to successfully make good decisions for the township,” Comeaux said. “I would like to see our township run as efficiently as possible.” Comeaux’s track record with the fire department supports that claim. Not only did he manage the process of working with three other townships to make capital equipment improvements through an interlocal agreement, but he started the process for bringing the level of emergency ambulatory medical care from basic to advanced. Now Cedar Area Fire & Rescue has paramedics on staff 24/7.
He also made badly needed improvements to the fire department building in Cedar and led a team effort to get the fire department’s financials in good order.
“My administrative assistant, Dana Boomer, definitely deserves credit on that score,” Comeaux said. “It was a team effort.”
On a personal note, Comeaux is a dedicated family man. He and his wife, Stefany, have four daughters, with three still at home. Together they run a family business—Land of Milk and Honey—making soap from goat’s milk when they are not working their day jobs and the kids are not in school.
Comeaux is currently working as a paramedic at Munson in the emergency room. Previously, he worked as a fire fighter for Grand Traverse Metro Emergency Services Authority. He also serves on the Cedar Area Fire & Rescue board.
“Supporting my family is everything,” Comeaux said. “Being the best person I can be for them has always ended up with successful results at home and at work.”
What does the new supervisor hope to accomplish during the next four years?
“There are several ordinances that need to be in place as soon as poss ible,” Comeaux said. Parks, short- term rental and ADU ordinances are currently being developed at the planning commission. But, overall, running a financially sound community will be behind every decision.
“Running financially sound for the needs of the township,” Comeaux said. “And that will be determined by the electorate and what they should like to see.”
