St. Mary Business Professionals of America (BPA) High School group had an outstanding showing at the regional competition in Mt. Pleasant.
All 13 students qualified to move on to the state competition taking place in March. Students participated in multiple events and had great success.
Finishing first was the Administrative Support Team (Adrienne Ackley, James Bunek, Berkleigh Carol, Daisy Serrano) and the Podcast Team (Cathryn Mikowski, Jacqueline Hearne, Claire Couturier). Also finishing first in: Intermediate Word Processing (Avery Bunek), Fundamental Word Processing (Serrano), and Basic Office Systems (Lily Herman).
Andrew Grant, Lily Herman and teammate, placed second in the Broadcast News Team category. Jacqueline Hearne placed second in Ethics & Professionalism. Daniel Chaney placed third and Carol placed fifth in Fundamental Word Processing. Chaney also placed fourth in Human Resource Management. Anthony Grant placed fourth in Banking & Finance and third in Payroll Accounting. Lily Herman had an amazing showing placing sixth in both Business Spelling and Digital Communications, as well as third in Parliamentary Procedures Concepts. Cathryn Mikowski achieved fourth place in Parliamentary Procedures Concepts. And finally, in Fundamental Spreadsheet Applications, Andrew Grant and his teammate placed fourth. BPA is the nation’s leading Career & Technical Student Organization and provides cocurricular activities for students pursuing careers in business management, information technology, finance, accounting, office administration, and other business-related career fields.
