Local Albion alum recognized

Gail Snyder Hetler of Suttons Bay is being recognized by Albion College for a recent gift to the college’s retention and persistence programming.

Hetler, a 1968 Albion graduate, donated $120,000 to sustain student retention and success programming created at part of the Title III Strengthening Institutions Program by establishing The Mae Ola Dunklin Student Endowment Fund.

“(Hetler’s) generous and dedicated commitment to providing all students at Albion College to support resources to enhance the educational experience as reflective of her successful career as an educator, mentor, and national leader for academic excellence in the classroom and the community,” Albion College Director of Philanthropy Jon Hankins.

Hetler graduated from Albion with a degree in French, English and Secondary Education.

She earned her master’s degree in education from California State University, East Bay in 1975. A National Board certified teacher, Helter is a retired high school French instructor from El Cerrito High School, West Contra Costa, California.

She and her husband, Bob, a fellow Albion alum, live in Suttons Bay.
