Cedar Area Fire & Rescue (CAFR) received a resolution of appreciation this month by its governing board.
At its Dec. 13 meeting the board unanimously adopted a resolution recognizing the agency’s recent license as an Advanced Life Support (ALS) Transporting Agency.
Initially, the department was licensed to provide Basic Life Support as they had been under the Solon-Centerville Township Fire Department. However, this changed in 2016 when a new, four-township organization was formed with a goal of improving service for the residents of Solon, Centerville, Cleveland and Kasson townships. “It has been wonderful to see the changes in the department over the last decade,” said former Glen Arbor Fire Chief John DePuy, an ad hoc member of the CAFR board. He had recently returned from France, where he had the opportunity to tour Omaha Beach.
“That beach memorializes the sacrifice of many young men in 1944,” he said.
He thanked the military, firefi ghters, and EMTs today who put their lives on the line with every call.
The resolution expresses appreciation and congratulations to the staff for their effort over the last six years working diligently to bring the department up to the standards required to achieve the ALS status. They specifically praised retired Chief Christopher Comeaux and Chief Andrew Doornbos for efforts, which have resulted in ALS licensing.
The four member townships and voters were also lauded in the resolution.
Board members said they were grateful for the support of the four townships and the voters.
In other business the board:
• Learned that all member townships have approved the budget for the 2024-25 and 202526 years.
• Agreed to continue meeting the first Thursday of each month at 2 p.m. at the fire hall.
The exception to this would be July 4 when the meeting will be rescheduled for July 11.
