County Oks 3% wage increase

The Leelanau County board of commissioners approved the following items under their consent agenda at their Dec. 17 meeting:

• A sheriff’s office request to use grant funds to send a second employed recruit to basic police training, but only if a deputy leaves their position in Leelanau County as anticipated. The board previously approved a grant application to the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Northwestern Michigan College that would allow them to send the first employed recruit to the academy at their November meeting.

• Year-end adjustments and transfers deemed necessary to avoid year-end deficits in the various department budgets within the general fund, with no transfer/ adjustments to go beyond the contingency fund.

• An agreement with the state of Michigan’s Statewide Authoritative Imagery and Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) Program, to collect aerial imagery in spring 2025 for the equalization, emergency services/911, and planning and building safety departments, at a total cost of $25,019.

• A contract renewal for consulting and engineering services with the Traverse City-based GEI Consultants, as needed by the Leelanau County Drain Commissioner, for 2025, at a budgeted amount of $10,000.

• Relinquishing the Brewery Creek drain to Elmwood Township. The Elmwood Township board agreed to accept jurisdiction and control of the drain at their Nov. 12 meeting.

• Renewing the county’s VMware virtualization software licensing for three years, in the amount of $10,968, from SafetyNet.

• An agreement with Michigan State University for Extension services for Leelanau County for 2025, in the amount of $141,730.

• The Lower NW2 Regional Material Management Planning Committee’s proposed bylaws. Leelanau, Benzie, and Grand Traverse counties are members of this committee.

• An Earned Sick Time Act (ESTA) policy, effective Feb. 8. According to executive documents, the ESTA was passed by the state supreme court in July and requires employers with more than one employee to offer earned sick leave time at the rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked. The non-union personnel policy was also updated to comply with this law.

• The Michigan Municipal Risk Management Authority coverage proposal for Leelanau County for 2025, in the amount of $258,480, and the Stop Loss Program Participant agreement outlined in the proposal.

• Renewing the copy machine/ printer service maintenance agreements with Netlink Business Solutions for 2025, at a cost not to exceed $19,529.

• The 2025 non-union wage schedule, reflecting a 3% increase to the 2024 approved non-union wage schedule as amended.

• Amending the agreement with Progressive AE to continue their professional services in the Leelanau Township tower project, increasing the “not-toexceed” amount from $5,300 to $7,800.
