Long-planned improvements to Leland School’s secondary media center may become a reality in 2024.

The Board of Education is working on proposed improvements to the media center which were included in the district’s most recent renovations.

“We are in the process of reviewing our facilities master plan and the largest outstanding item from three years ago is the renovation of the center of the old part of the building which emcompasses the MS/HS library, some offices, a conference room, and some storage space,” Superintendent Stephanie Long said. “It was originally included in the construction project as phase three but construction delays and COVID pushed it farther down the road.

“We are now exploring designs to finish that project.”

Three designs are under consideration. Common among them are renovation of the media center with glass side wall to allow more natural light inside.

Design concept A keeps the media center as is with a board room, conference room and office constructed to the east. A second option would move the media center east with a board meeting room and two classrooms/ instructional space south of the board room.

Design concept C calls for the media center to relocate to the east with new classroom/small group spaces to the south and north.
