After we stuff ourselves with the finest turkey and stuffing, Friday and Saturday will bring out the holiday spirit in all of us, along with the best Leelanau deals of 2024.
A pajama party will be breaking in the consumer holiday with a “bed parade” from 9 to 9:30 a.m. starting at the Pine Cone to Art’s Tavern.
The PJ Party is an annual tradition in the Glen Arbor business district, where you are invited to wear your pajamas and come out for special sales and offers with participating local merchants for a “Better than Black Friday” shopping experience.
The PJ party will begin at 6 or 7 a.m. at local businesses around town.
Participants include M22 Glen Arbor, Coastal, Cherry Republic Retail Store, Cottage Book Shop, Inn and Trail Gourmet, Harbor View Lavender/The Cherry Shop, Forest Gallery, and more.
Those festivities will be followed up with all day shopping deals from local businesses until the holiday market opens from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Glen Arbor Township Hall. A tree lighting will take place at the town hall at 6:15 p.m.
The deals don’t stop on Friday, as the Holiday Marketplace continues Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Santa will be making a pit stop in the Sleeping Bear town from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The Empire Area Marketplace at the Empire Township Hall will take place Saturday, Nov. 30 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with 19 local vendors. The Glen Lake Library will be hosting a used book sale across the street. Complete your day of shopping in Empire by going to the Cottonwood Inn where there will be a Christmas boutique that will feature gifts, vendors, face painting and more.
The holiday spirit will be high as Light Up Cedar takes place from 3:30 to 7 p.m. Friday.
The community event will have train rides, slides, reindeer, bonfire, arts and crafts and more.
Santa will be arriving at 5:30 p.m. and pictures will be available until 7 p.m.
A new store called ‘“BeWell” will be having its grand opening during Light Up Cedar, located in the alleyway near Buntings Grocery Store, across the street from Cedar Tavern.
Light Up Leland will take place Friday at 6 p.m. when Fishtown will cheer on Santa as he rides into town in the Leland Fire Truck from the Christmas tree corner to the Old Art Building, sparkling the town with light along the way before heading back to his workshop in the North Pole. Plenty of local businesses will also be having sales for the festive day.
The Northport Arts Association along with Willowbrook are hosting their eighth annual Holiday Arts & Crafts Sale happening Saturday, Nov. 29 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. featuring a wide variety of fine arts and crafts from talented local artists. Enjoy shopping for holiday decor, pottery, fiber arts & needlework, jewelry, photography, paintings, greeting cards, books, aromatherapy, herbals, ornaments, wood work, maple syrup, homemade pet treats, original artwork, fresh Christmas wreaths and more.
The Northport Tree is being decorated and readied for the season. Northport resident Scott Cain, owner of Cain Design and Construction, was up in the bucket truck himself this past week, hanging lights and giant ornaments.
Mark your calendars for all of the fun events over the holidays. Saturday, November 30 is the Northport Tree Lighting, with a full day of activities leading up to it.
The Holiday Arts and Crafts Show, organized by the Northport Arts Association (NAA), goes from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in two venues — the Willowbrook Mill and the Village Arts Building. Enjoy shopping for holiday décor, pottery, fiber arts, needlework, jewelry, photography, paintings, greeting cards, books, aromatherapy, herbals, ornaments, wood work, maple syrup, homemade pet treats, original artwork, fresh Christmas wreaths, and more. All this leads up to the Tree Lighting at 6 p.m.
