Earlier this month St. Mary K-12 students had the unique opportunity to attend a Native American Heritage presentation, featuring eighth grader Alexa Diaz, a talented jingledress dancer. Alexa, alongside two of her friends, showcased various Native American dance styles, sharing her culture and skills with the school community.

The performance included an interactive segment where students were invited to join in and learn one of the dances, creating a fun and engaging experience for all. Throughout the presentation, students also gained insight into the significance of the songs sung during these dances, the importance of drums in Native American culture, and the rich traditions of Native American festivities.

The jingle dress, decorated with bright colors and exquisite beadwork as shown in the photo, creates a distinct sound with each movement, as the jingles mimic the rhythm of the dance steps. This captivating cultural display left a lasting impression on students and staff.
