‘Tis the season! Saturday, Nov. 30 is the Northport Tree Lighting, with a full day of activities leading up to it. The Leelanau Township Library in Northport has children’s activities that day including crafts, writing letters to Santa, cookies (eating cookies is an activity in my book), and more!
The Holiday Arts and Crafts Show, organized by the Northport Arts Association (NAA), goes from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in two venues – the Willowbrook Mill and the Village Arts Building. Enjoy shopping for holiday décor, pottery, fiber arts, needlework, jewelry, photography, paintings, greeting cards, books, aromatherapy, herbals, ornaments, wood work, maple syrup, homemade pet treats, original artwork, fresh Christmas wreaths, and more. All this leads up to the Tree Lighting at 6 p.m.
Thursday, Dec. 5, from 2 to 3 p.m., is “Frost and Fusion: A Seasonal Art Showcase” by Northport School students in grades K – 12. It is open to the public, and the students will be there to answer questions about their works.
Saturday, Dec. 7, is the annual Holiday Treats and Yard Sale Treasures from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Trinity Church in Northport. It is a bake sale with all kinds of homemade holiday treats and yard sale treasures. All profits go to the Northport Women’s Club educational grants.
Sunday, Dec. 8, from 3 to 5 p.m. is the annual Northport Community Band and Village Voices Holiday Concert. It is always a great event, full of holiday cheer. And cookies afterwards!
If that’s not enough holiday music – and you can never get enough holiday music – on Wednesday, Dec. 11, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. is the Northport School Holiday Concert in the school auditorium. Students in grades K-5 will sing familiar holiday tunes, followed by the middle and high school band performances. It’s free admission, and everyone is welcome.
The Northport Arts Association also has two art shows. The Autumn Members Art Show ends this Saturday, with artists picking up their works beginning on Saturday. The hours are noon to 4 p.m. Then, from December 6 through January 4 is Christmas in the Village Arts Building. The show is open Tuesday through Saturday, noon to 4 p.m., except Dec. 24 and 25 and Jan. 1.
If this seems like a lot of dates to keep track of, you can always go the Northport Omena Calendar to get all of this information.
With all of the holiday festivities, it’s also that time of year when you need to keep active. I just signed up for an exercise class. They said to wear loose fitting clothing. If I had any loose fitting clothing, I wouldn’t have signed up in the first place.
Happy Birthday this week to Nancy Kalchik, Mike Mann, and Millard Mack. Happy Anniversary to Paul and Terry Harris, and to Les and Debby Disch, who celebrate their 55th. One tip I could share after all these years of marriage is that if you tighten the lids on all the jars in the house, she’ll have to talk to you eventually.
