Glen Lake School board members were sitting on the edge of their seats Tuesday night as the Lakers found out the fate of an $8 million bond to improve school facilities.

The voters made their decision with a 54.94% yes, compared to 45.06% no.

“With the approval of this bond, the community has shown they are invested in our students and our community” said Jason Misner, Superintendent of Glen Lake Community Schools. “With the continual investments and improvements in the school district, we will continue to make Glen Lake Community Schools a great place to grow and learn. This opportunity not only benefits current students, but future generations.”

In July, Glen Lake announced they were going for an $8.1 million bond proposal after a $35 million proposal failed in the spring.

With the approval of the bond, which will generate $8.175 million. Glen Lake Community Schools is now able to facilitate improvements to address aging mechanical systems to improve indoor air quality and provide improved learning environments.

This bond aligns with the district’s ten-year capital spending plan upwards of $20 million, continuing efforts that have been in progress the past five years.

The infrastructure projects will take place over the next two to three summers to replace boilers, unit ventilators, and more.

Glen Lake also decided the fate of two seats on the school board for a six-year term.

Incumbent President Cory McNitt won reelection with 41.25% of the vote in a threeway race.

Nancy Flanagan earned the second seat, edging out Tom Bisbee by 1.3% or 15 seats (29.86%, 28.54%).

All three candidates supported the bond proposal that passed.

“I’m grateful to the community school district family that they still have the trust in me and continue to lead the school district in the right direction,” McNitt said. “I’m excited our district was willing to support the bond proposal to move forward with needs and continue on taking care of the school.”

Flanagan is excited to get to work.

“(Glen Lake) is a great school district and I’m happy to work with them,” Flanagan said.
