Suttons Bay football had their season end Sunday as the Norsemen were left out of the MHSAA 8-player Div. 1 playoffs.
The Norsemen missed out on the playoffs based on .04 points in a new rating system from the MHSAA that left a 6-3 overall team out of the playoffs.
“I look at the positive, and we had a great finish,” Suttons Bay coach Garrick Opie said. “We just happen to be extremely close to being in the playoffs. We’re going focus on the positive and ending the year on a very positive note, and I think the young men on the team feel excellent about their final game.”
Suttons Bay (6-3) lost on a playoff spot to two other 6-3 overall teams.
The Norsemen went out on top regardless, with a win over Mesick nearly two weeks ago after Engadine canceled on them Friday.
“We had a lot of great games, and I think we had a great bond as a team. We were very cohesive this year. The team is much bigger than just football,” Opie said. “It’s about the brotherhood of it. The family aspect is that we have become a family over the years. We’ve developed lifelong friendships and learned life lessons while becoming good individuals for the rest of their lives.”
