Toys for Tot campaign begins

Leelanau Christian Neighbors (LCN) LCN’s Holiday Needs Program, ensuring that local families experience the warmth of the season.

Running from Nov. 4 through Dec. 16, the Toys for Tots program collects donations to help bring holiday joy to children and teens in need.

Toys will be distribute through LCN’s Holiday Needs Program, ensuring that local families experience the warmth of the season.

Community members are encouraged to donate gifts appropriate for their child or relative. In addition to new, unwrapped toys and gifts, preteen items like sporting equipment, backpacks, cosmetics, purses, watch/wallet gift sets, bath gift sets, board games, radio control cars/trucks, hand=held electronics, curling irons, hear straighteners, and hair dryers are accepted, Realistic-looking and gifts with food will not be distributed. Cash donations and gift cars are also welcome and till help ensure that each child receives a meaningful gift this holiday season.

Donations can be dropped off at locations through the county, including:

• Brainstorm, Hansen Foods, Suttons Bay Dental Center, Edward Jones and 5/3 Bank in Suttons Bay

• Tom’s Food Market in Northport and Elmwood Township

• The Leland Township Library

• Bunek True Value and East Traverse Catholic Federal Credit Union in Lake Leelanau

• Buntings Cedar Market in Cedar

• Maple Valley Nursing Home and MC Sport Shop in Maple City

• Cherry Republic and Anderson’s Market in Glen Arbor

• Leelanau Studios, Elmwood Township office and West End Tavern, Elmwood Township.

“We are incredibly grateful to our community partners and donors for helping Toys for Tots bring joy and comfort to our neighbors,” said Mary Stanton, LCN executive director. “Each donations, whether toys, cash, or gift cards, truly makes a difference, and we thank everyone involved in this year’s Toys for Tots drive.”

Toy distribution will take places on Tuesday, Dec. 17, at the VFW Hall in Lake LEelanau. Families who wish to receive gifts through the Holiday Needs Program must register in advance at LCN from 2 to 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 25 or Dec. 2, 9 or 16.

Items distributed through the Holiday Needs program come from many sources in addition to the Toys for Tots campaign. The separate toy drive is part of a national campaign that was started 74 years ago by members of the Marine Corps Reserve. It is the largest toy collection program in the country with 800 campaigns in all 50 states.
