Leelanau voters will have a role in electing candidates for Congress and the state House of Representatives.
Republican incumbent Jack Bergman is being challenged for the opportunity to represent northwest Michigan and the Upper Peninsula — the first Congressional district.
Bergman served as a threestar general in the Marine Corps, a pilot for Northwest, and founded his own business in the medical-equipment sector.
He was first elected in 2016.
Barr defeated two other candidates in the August Primary to win the Democratic nomination.
Barr is an educator, lawyer, military-family advocate, mom of two girls and a fifth-generation northern Michigander who graduated from Cheboygan High School and the University of Michigan Law School.
Compensation for Congressmen is $174,000 per year, plus expenses.
At the state level, Traverse City incumbent state Rep. Betsy Coffia, a Democrat, will face Republican nominee Lisa Trombley.
Coffia has longtime local roots, grew up in a working class northern Michigan home and made a life here. Former newspaper editor, social worker, Grand Traverse County Commissioner (2018-2022).
Trombley is a native Michigander who grew up on the Great Lakes. She has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan and an MS in Technology of Management from the American University. Trombley retired to Traverse City after a successful career in the Washington, D.C. area where she provided technology solutions and services to the federal government, including the Department of Defense and the intelligence community.
Compensation for state representatives is $71,685 per year plus expenses.
