Holiday potluck in Empire

It’s a busy time of year, people running around Christmas shopping, getting ready for company, decorating the houses and just doing the things they do this time a year. So far the weather has held on for traveling, but who knows what can happen.

Just a reminder the annual Children’s Book Drive with the Friends of the Glen Lake Library, collecting new children’s books for preschoolers through grade 6. Please giftwrap your books and deliver them to the library or to the Cottage Bookshop in Glen Arbor through Saturday, December 17th. They will be distributed at Glen Lake School and other area partners.

Also, a reminder, the Empire Area Community Center is sponsoring a Holiday Potluck on Dec. 17 at the Empire Town hall, doors open at 5 p.m. and it begins at 6 p.m. Be on your best behavior because Mr. and Mrs. Claus will be arriving at 7 p.m.

Happy Hanukkah to all my Jewish friends.

When crossing the Carl Oleson Junior Memorial Bridge aka, the Narrows, you have to see the great job the Garden Club did decorating. Always a great job. Hopefully the wind will leave it up for a while looks great. While you are looking, you can see the “Christmas Tree Boat” out in Big Glen, again subject to winds. Great job all.

Happy Birthday wishes to Diane Nichols, Tim Sutherland, Martha Raymond and Marilyn Wilcox.

Happy Anniversary wishes to Pam and Tom Laureto.

Get well wishes to Maureen MacGillvray who has a new back.

Ronald Reagan said “Christmas can be celebrated in the school room with pine trees, tinsel and reindeer, but there must be no mention of the man who’s birthday is being celebrated. One wonders how a teacher would answer if the student asks why it’s called Christmas.”

Be happy. Tis the season. If possible shop locally. Be careful.

As always and becoming more and more necessary. Go Patriotism.
