The Leelanau County Board of Commissioners held its monthly regular session early on the second Tuesday of the month, and made the following actions under its consent agenda: • Approved a $249,058 contract with the Michigan Municipal Risk Management Authority, renewing their property and casualty insurance with the agency through 2024.
• Approved and allowed the sheriff’s office to hold a charity golf outing in 2024 to benefit its K-9 program. According to county documents, the Manitou Passage Golf Club has tentatively agreed to host “on a weekday in early June.”
• Renewed the county’s Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan healthcare plan for 2024 and increased the monthly fee to C&M Insurance for the administration of the healthcare plan from $4,170 to $4,295.
• Approved an agreement between the 13th Circuit Court – which consists of Antrim, Grand Traverse, and Leelanau counties – and the 20th Circuit Court of Ottawa County, for juvenile detention bed rental and residential treatment services.
• Accepted a $680 donation from the Area Agency on Aging of Northwest Michigan for beneficiary outreach assistance.
• Approved a revised renewal agreement for as-needed consulting and engineering for general drain consulting between the county, the county drain commission, and GEI Consultants of Michigan, pending counsel review and approval, for $10,000.
• Authorized the county clerk to enter into an agreement with Fidlar Technologies for software cataloging the county’s vital records — such as marriages, deaths, births, and DBAs — in an amount not to exceed $16,900.
• Authorized interim finance director Cathy Hartesvelt to “make any year-end adjustments and transfers deemed necessary to avoid year-end deficits in the various department budgets within the General Fund. No transfers/ adjustments to go beyond funds in the contingency.” They also scheduled an end-of-year special session for Dec. 29, 2023, at 9:30 a.m.
• Changed the rental fee for the motor pool fund to a $0.25/$0.50 mileage rate in fiscal year 2024.
