The Leelanau County Board of Commissioners approved the following items as part of their consent agenda at their Oct. 8 annual meeting:

• Accepted a $1,000 Michigan Municipal Risk Management Authority grant to be used to offset the cost of purchasing a safety restraint chair for the Leelanau County Sheriff’s Office.

• Renewed an Emergency Management Performance Grant (EMPG) work agreement for the 2024-2025 fiscal year and submitting required quarterly reports on the county’s progress in fulfilling the requirements of the work agreement. According to Emergency Management Director Matt Ansorge, the county can expect $4,200-5,600 in EMPG funding this year, down 60-70% from $14,030 last year.

• Approved the county’s 2024 apportionment report. The millage rates listed in the apportionment report are used for property tax billing and other reports required by the state, according to executive documents.

• Appointed Lydia Gulow, resource recovery director of Grand Traverse County, to a regional Materials Management Planning (MMP) Committee consisting of Grand Traverse, Benzie, and Leelanau counties. The Leelanau County board previously approved an interlocal agreement to create an MMP in June.

• Appointed Dr. Thomas Koster as deputy medical examiner, authorizing him to sign death certificates for autopsies on the county’s behalf, as recommended by the office of the medical examiner.

• Appointed Commissioner Jim O’Rourke to the Traverse Transportation Coordinating Initiative (TTCI) policy board and technical committee for the remainder of 2024. The next board of commissioners will appoint a new representative at their next organizational meeting in January.
