The Lake Leelanau Street Fair committee will host its annual Street Fair Saturday in Lake Leelanau.
The event, previously held in mid-September, was changed and correlates with the threeday Columbus Day weekend. It will be held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
“We intentionally chose a shoulder-season, so that our local neighbors and friends who are so busy during the summer, will be able to attend,” event cochair Patrice Korson said. “We offer plenty of free entertainment because we want it to be affordable for families.”
This year, the event will include around 60 artists and craftsmen setting up booths to present their wares. The offerings include a wide variety of fine arts, jewelry, specialty foods, sewn goods, carved art, pottery, and so much more.
Additionally, the local food options include:
• Pleva’s Meats serving up their hearty dogs, brats and more
• Authentic Mexican food from the food truck Taquiera Mosqueda
• Popcorn, freshly popped onsite from Meredith Family Kettle Corn
• Coffee treats from Hive Coffee Company.
A huge range of vendors are returning, after having set up booths for many years in the past.
“We have heard from many of our vendors that this is one of their favorite events of the year,” said Mary Lingaur, cochair of the event. “They love our crowd, and the small-town vibe we offer. And most have said that their sales have made it a worthy investment of their time.
“We love knowing that we have such a good thing going here.” Lingaursaid.
There will also be activities, free of charge, for kids of all ages.
The Grant family of Double Oak Farm will be bringing their petting zoo, again. Caricature artist, Jill Justin will be on hand to draw caricatures. The Painted Lady Face Art will join us for the first time to paint faces. And Clark Lewis, the Rogue Showman, will return to impress the crowds with his act that includes so much more than just juggling.
The musical entertainment this year includes: Deep Blue Water Samba School of Traverse City, noon to 1:30 p.m.; New Third Coast, 2 to 3:30 p.m.; at the Broom Closet from 4 to 6 p.m.
“This is the 10th year for the Lake Leelanau Street Fair. We have been blessed with so many great committee members and volunteers throughout the years,” Korson said. “Also, a huge thanks goes to our sponsors who truly do make it happen. We don’t charge an entry fee, so we really depend on their help to pull this off.”
The end goal is to have funds available for beautification of the village.
The Lake Leelanau Street Fair is an offshoot of the Lake Leelanau Community Association and is a 501(c) 3 organization.
