To the editor:
50 million people live in Sudan, Sub-Saharan Africa. Ten million people have been forced to flee from their homes. I recently learned the war-torn country of Sudan has collapsed and the level of starvation will surpass the worst global occurrence in past 100 years. Some readers may remember the starvation in Ethiopia in 1980s when 500,000 to 1 million died. A child is dying from starvation and/or disease every two hours in the refugee camps in Sudan. The rate is increasing as conditions deteriorate. Warring factions and militias are blocking humanitarian aid. Ethnic cleansing of Black African ethnic groups is occurring by Arab militias. The wars in Ukraine, Israel, Palestine, and Lebanon dominate the news cycles. There is little international and United Nations initiatives to prevent the complete collapse of Sudan. Nongovernmental organizations are blocked delivering aid to refugee camps. Sudan will become a failed state and millions of people will die over the next 3 years.
