Permits OK'd for 6 duplexes in S-B

Suttons Bay Village recently issued land use permits for 12 residential units across six duplexes at the north end of the village in July and August. This is part of the Harbor Heights development, which will eventually consist of 32 units across 16 duplexes on Waypoint Circle Drive, at the end of North Duester Park Lane.

Village Manager Rob Larrea told the newspaper that village staff are currently working with the developer, Northporte Development LLC, on the installation of the roadway leading to the duplexes. Larrea noted that village ordinances require that developers put in the roadway in its entirety at this stage.

The units each consist of onestory wood frame buildings with finished basements, main floors, covered entries, porches, and finished attached garages, according to permit applications filed with the county department of building safety. They are intended for retirees, second homeowners, and as vacation homes.

The Suttons Bay Village Council held a brief meeting Monday where they clarified that Larrea would not lose his accrued vacation time as part of his new contract. The council previously approved a five-year employment agreement with Larrea in August that increased his salary of $88,000 to $115,000, largely on the strength of his six years of service to the village.

According to Larrea, it is not standard practice to terminate accumulated benefits as part of a new or extended contract, but since this was not specifically stated in the contract, village staff were not confident in transferring his accrued vacation time. The village council unanimously agreed to transfer Larrea’s time at the Monday meeting, as discussed in contract negotiations.
