A Pure Michigan Maple Glazed Apple Pie to be precise.

Grand Traverse Pie Company and Pure Michigan announced the newest ‘Pure Michigan Maple Glazed Apple Pie’ at the Northwest Michigan Horticultural Research Station in Bingham Township Monday.

“Sunny days and cool nights, that’s pure Michigan,” said Mike Busley, owner of GTPC along with his wife Denise. “The authenticity of your experience (visiting northern Michigan in the fall) you are not going to forget. We make our pies the same way. We make them one by one with the best ingredients surrounding us. Bake them slow and end up with a pie you will never forget.”

The Pure Michigan Maple Glazed Apple Pie will be available Sept. 23 through December.

GT pie bakers were asked to do something they’ve never done before.

Mike and Denise had the unfortunate task of tasting all of the pies.

“Everyone loved this pie,” he said.

The local northern spy apple pastry pie will be sold in both 6-inch and 9-inch sizes in all GT Pie locations, and in scores of supermarkets across Michigan and into Indiana. The pies will be available nationally through www.gtpie.com.

This is the second pie collaboration between Pure Michigan and GTPC for a fall harvest pie. The new pie campaign will also put a spotlight on early childhood development.

Mi Kids Matter is a resource from the Department of Lifelong Education, Advancement, and Potential Office of Great Start.

“Our Michigan growers nurture each apple, cherry and blueberry that go into our pies. Caring for fruit early on leads to a better pie…just like nurturing each child leads to greater outcome, stronger humans and greater success later in life,” Denise said.

Mi Kids Matter is a resource for parents and families that need to give their child their best chance at health, happiness, and success late in life.

“We call it ‘The Power of Pie!’” Mike said.

Grand Traverse Pie Company is a leading company among Michigan agricultural growers and processors with every apple, cherry, and blueberry coming from Michigan farms across the state.

Additionally, all the flour and sugar used to make each and every pie comes from Michigan farmers as well. Over 90 % of all Grand Traverse Pie Company purchases come from Michigan farmers, processors, and suppliers, according to a press release.

Northwest Michigan Horticultural Research Station director Nikki Rothwell and Pure Michigan Vice President Kelly Wolgamott spoke at the event Monday.

“Apples are an incredible story for the state, and such a great representation of pure Michigan and the agricultural diversity we have here in the state,” Wolgamott said. “To experience Pure Michigan and to have a pie that is all Michigan products. It just represents the brand. It’s just such a great opportunity to have these pies on holiday tables during thanksgiving. They can have a little taste of pure Michigan and remember back to the great vacation they had and start planning for the next trip next summer.”
