Local legend Richard Zywicki, owner of Cedar Hardware, is fighting for his life after a golf cart accident in Cleveland Township.
Zywicki is currently facing an incredibly challenging situation following a golf cart accident at his home where he was pinned underneath, according to Leelanau County Sheriff Department.
Zywicki is known as the hardware man with an unwavering commitment to helping others.
“With a heart full of compassion and a spirit of selflessness, Rich has consistently gone above and beyond to support those in need. Whether it’s offering a listening ear, lending a helping hand, or providing practical assistance, Rich embodies the true essence of kindness and generosity. He would give the shirt off his back to a complete stranger and makes friends wherever goes,” A GoFundMe description said. “His wife Jennifer and children, Morgan and Jackson, need your help more than ever.”
The GoFundMe account initially hit its goal of $15,000 within hours. The family is now asking for $35,000 to help with medical costs. The account has already raised $21,700 as of yesterday morning from 171 unique donations. Only seven donations were under $50 with others raising 100-1,000.
Thousands of people have offered their support on the ‘Overheard in Leelanau’ Facebook page when an anonymous member posted to the site about the incident.
The Cedar Hardware store, a Leelanau gem, has been in operation for nearly 80 years, while current owner Rich Zywicki has owned the business for the past 17 years.
