To the editor:
All of those complaining about Biden’s age and his ability to get the job done, need to pay attention to what he is accomplishing. He has shown us that experience counts when leading this nation and dealing with global matters.
In the Israeli-Hamas conflict which might have expanded into a wide Mideast war has, because of Biden’s around the clock negotiations, not only restrained the excessive revenge plans of the extremist Netanyahu but has resulted in Biden’s success in recovering Hamas hostages and establishing a series of humanitarian convoys to provide food, fuel and medical supplies to the suffering civilians caught in the war zone.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his rightwing supporters refused to agree to the terms of the temporary ceasefire for these convoys until President Biden pressured them to do so. A senior Israeli official told NBC reporters, “This deal was a Biden deal, not a Netanyahu deal.” Biden administration officials have been constantly engaged with the region’s leaders to help hammer out the agreement.
Speaking from Nantucket on Thanksgiving, Biden said, “I have consistently pressed for a pause in the fighting for two reasons: to accelerate and expand the humanitarian assistance going into Gaza and to facilitate the release of hostages.”
Biden has the experience and the moral courage needed to guide this nation and negotiate with allies around the world. Trump never did. His answer was to throw paper towels to people in need and embrace the authoritarians of the world.
