Glen Lake volleyball is back on the court with new faces looking to compete in 2024.
“A lot of these girls haven’t really played together on the court. And putting them together this year and seeing how they’ve meshed, they work together, and they really want to be better for each other is unlike I’ve seen in the past,” Glen Lake coach Stephanie Peplinski said. “They’re going to step out on the court and step up for each other.”
Glen Lake already started its season today with a quad match at Suttons Bay before traveling to Kalkaska on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
The Lakers will have to replace the height of graduated senior Eleanor Valkner and the leadership of Ava Raymond to note a few.
Peplinski says the team has been focused in the gym and refining those skills to step into those positions.
“Leaving it all out on the court. We’ve got some big shoes to fill, and getting those girls to move and trust each other and really work as a team. I have faith in them,” Peplinski said.
Glen Lake moved up to Div. 3 for the volleyball season that will result in tougher competition.
Glen Lake's leadership team includes senior Peyton Brown, and sophomore Lydia Fosmore, who are ready to take on the leadership roles.
“That’s a big thing for me. I want to be a leader out on the court, and I’m really excited to be,” Fosmore said. “Help the younger girls coming up and also just improve my game.”
Lex Aylsworth and Brown are both excited for their senior campaigns.
““I’m excited to play as a team. I’m ready to get to know a lot of these girls. I just love the sport,” Aylsworth said. “If we work as a team, I think we can get really far ... It’s my favorite sport. And I just love the girls. They’re amazing people and I’m just excited.”
Brown is emotional about her senior season because she has been playing with these girls her whole life.
“I’m emotional about that. It’s kind of nerve wracking and sad because I’ve been playing with these girls for my whole life. I’m hoping to make new friends with them, but I’m really excited to see what happens this year,” Brown said.
“My goal is to keep getting better at my hitting. I’ve always struggled with it, so I’m hoping the more I play, the more I get better and hopefully just go from there.”
