Leelanau Christian Neighbors (LCN) treated its volunteers and Neighbors Monday to a sweet surprise with a visit from Buchan’s Scoops 22 Ice Cream Truck.
From 2 to 6 p.m., volunteers and community members waiting for services from LCN’s food pantry, baby pantry, and financial assistance programs enjoyed a variety of delicious ice cream flavors served in cones and dishes.
The event, held at LCN’s property, was a heartfelt gesture to show appreciation for the ongoing dedication of the volunteers and to bring some joy to the Neighbors who rely on LCN’s essential services. “We just wanted to say thank you to both our volunteers and Neighbors. We appreciate them coming here.” said Mary Stanton, LCN Executive Director.
The ice cream put a smile on the faces of adults and children in attendance who expressed their gratitude for the unexpected treat. As heard by one volunteer, “An ice cream truck! What a great little bonus.”
Adding to the day’s excitement, Keswick United Methodist Church generously handed out backpacks to school-aged children on a first-come, first-served basis. This timely giveaway ensures local students have the supplies they need to start the school year prepared.
The food pantry, baby pantry, and financial assistance are available at Leelanau Christian Neighbors every Monday from 2 to 6 p.m. Leelanau County residents in need can call LCN at 231.994.2271 or come to 7322 E Duck Lake Rd. in Lake Leelanau from 2 to 6 p.m. on Mondays to sign up to receive services.
