The Leelanau Historical Society will host its annual South Manitou Island day trip on Monday, Sept. 9.
The exclusive trip offers a unique chance to delve into the island’s rich history, guided by the museum staff and local experts.
The group will depart from Leland on the Mishe Mokwa ferry. Amenities include primitive (flushing toilets, a source of drinking water, picnic tables, trash receptacles. In an effort to reduce waste the group will no longer provide water. Bring your own reuseable water bottle that can be filled from a source near the dock.
Pack your own lunch/sandwich. Beverages (soft drinks), snacks, and sweets will be provided. A cash bar and additional snacks are available for purchase on the ferry.
Participants need good walking shoes/boots; dress in layers; light jacket; hat and a backpack. Bug spray, sunscreen, walking sticks, binoculars, and a watch are also recommended.)
Cost is $85 for Leelanau Historical Society members; $115 for non-members. Cancellation fee is 50% within 15 days of the trip.
